Student Move-Out Junk Removal in
Portland

The dorm mattress, the hand-me-down couch, the mini-fridge nobody's driving home to another state — cleared out of PSU, Reed, Lewis & Clark and University of Portland housing at a flat photo-quoted price. We come during the May–June move-out crush, carry it down the stairs ourselves (a twin mattress is $82, a whole room prices as truck-fill), recycle the mattress free, and add no sales tax — because Oregon doesn't have one.

Move-out week, one campus at a time

Every May and June, Portland's college calendars all end within a few weeks of each other and the same thing happens across the city: leases and housing contracts run out, students fly home or move on, and rooms full of furniture that cost nothing and is worth nothing get left behind. We staff for exactly that window. Book from a photo, lock a flat price, and we clear it before your housing checkout or your lease walk-through — no waiting on a callback, no in-person estimate, no scramble on the last day.

  • Reed College — the SE Woodstock and Eastmoreland blocks around campus fill with dorm mattresses, futons and off-campus house furniture in the June move-out. We know the neighborhood and we carry it out of the old Craftsman rentals, stairs and all.
  • Portland State (PSU) — a largely commuter, downtown campus, so the surge is off-campus: the South Waterfront and downtown apartment towers turning over, where a couch has to come down a freight elevator and the building wants a COI. We handle both.
  • Lewis & Clark — up on SW Palatine Hill, with move-out landing around mid-May. Long, wooded driveways and hillside houses — we bring the truck up and carry the load down, no surcharge for the grade.
  • University of Portland — out on the North Portland peninsula in Portsmouth and University Park. Bungalow and cottage rentals near campus, cleared same-week during the end-of-year move.

Exact 2026 move-out dates vary by school and by dorm — check your housing or lease deadline, then book the window that beats it.

How much does student move-out removal cost in Portland?

Flat and photo-quoted before anyone drives — the carry-out and the disposal are already in the number, and there's no sales tax added at the end because Oregon has none. One or two items price per piece; a whole dorm room or an off-campus apartment prices as a flat truck-fill.

Typical move-out itemFlat price
Twin mattress$82
Full mattress$94
Box spring$92
Futon$111
Sofa / couch$126
Loveseat$119
Mini-fridge$115
Desk$83
Bookshelf$72
Whole room (truck-fill, 1/4)$241
Off-campus apartment (truck-fill, 1/2)$431

$75 minimum. Stairs, walk-ups and freight elevators are included — no surcharge. Clearing the whole room at once? Send one photo of everything and we price the lot as a flat truck-fill. No Oregon sales tax — the flat price is the total.

The mattress gets recycled — free, as of 2026

The single biggest thing left behind at move-out is the mattress, and here's the good news: Oregon's statewide mattress-stewardship program launched January 1, 2026, so mattresses and box springs are now recycled free instead of landfilled. When we clear your room, the mattress goes to a recycler that pulls out the steel, foam and fiber, the good furniture is routed to donation, and only the true remainder is dumped. It's already covered by your flat price — and it's why a Portland move-out doesn't have to mean another mattress in a landfill.

Why the city bulk program doesn't work for a move-out

You might wonder if you can just leave it at the curb for the city. In Portland, residential bulky waste runs through the franchised garbage hauler assigned to the address, it's priced per item (a mattress is about $14–$29 plus an $18 trip fee), it's curbside only, and it can take up to seven days. During move-out week you don't have seven days, you almost certainly can't drag a mattress and a couch down three flights and out to the curb of a rental you're vacating, and a landlord who finds furniture piled at the curb isn't returning the deposit. That's the gap we fill: a crew that carries it out of the unit, same day when a slot's open, for one flat price.

What we clear out at move-out

  • Mattresses & box springs — twin, full, queen; recycled free under Oregon's 2026 program.
  • Couches, loveseats & futons — the classic off-campus hand-me-down, carried down the stairs.
  • Mini-fridges & microwaves — dorm-room appliances, hauled and recycled.
  • Desks, chairs, bookshelves & dressers — the flat-pack furniture nobody's driving home.
  • The whole room or apartment — boxes, bagged clothes, cheap rugs and all, priced as one flat truck-fill.

Booked by students and by parents

  • End-of-year checkout — housing deadline is tomorrow and the room has to be empty; we come same-day.
  • Lease turnover — an off-campus house near Reed or UP cleared before the next tenant and the walk-through.
  • Graduating and moving on — four years of furniture that isn't worth shipping, gone in one visit.
  • Out-of-town parents — booking and paying remotely while the student is mid-finals.

What Portland students & parents say

★★★★★

"Reed move-out and my off-campus room was a disaster — mattress, futon, a broken desk. They carried all of it down from the second floor, flat price from a photo, done the same afternoon. No tax, no drama."

— Nora K., Woodstock (Reed)
★★★★★

"I'm in Denver, my son's at UP. Booked the whole thing from a photo, they cleared his apartment on the peninsula the day his lease ended and the price never moved. Exactly what I needed."

— David R., parent (Portsmouth)
★★★★★

"South Waterfront tower, PSU roommate moving out, couch had to go down the freight elevator. They had the COI ready and took the mattress for recycling. Way easier than the city pickup that was a week out."

— Amaka O., South Waterfront (PSU)

How much does student move-out junk removal cost in Portland?

Flat and photo-quoted: twin mattress $82, full $94, futon $111, mini-fridge $115, desk $83, sofa $126. A whole dorm room prices as truck-fill from $241 (a quarter truck), an off-campus apartment $431 (a half truck). $75 minimum, carry-out and disposal included, no Oregon sales tax.

Can you come during Reed or PSU move-out week?

Yes — May and June is what we staff for, and same-day slots are usually open. Book from a photo and pick a window before your housing or lease deadline.

Do you recycle the mattress?

Yes, free. Oregon's mattress-stewardship program (launched January 1, 2026) means mattresses and box springs are recycled at no dumping cost — it's already in your flat price.

Do I have to drag it to the curb?

No. We carry it out of the room and down the stairs ourselves, at no extra charge — no staging at the curb, no surcharge for no elevator.

Can my parents book and pay from out of town?

Yes — many of our move-out jobs are booked remotely by a parent from a photo of the room. The flat price never changes on the day.

Is there sales tax at the end?

No. Oregon has no sales tax, so there's no tax line at all — the flat photo price is the whole total.
