St. Johns & Portsmouth
Out on the far-N peninsula (97203), across the Gothic St. Johns Bridge, is a town within the city — its own historic main street, its own village feel, its own bungalows and cottages over full basements. It's also home to the University of Portland, which means two signature jobs: peninsula basement and garage cleanouts and the May–June UP student move-out. We keep local crews out here, so the bridge never adds a dime. Flat photo-quoted price, same-day during move week, and no Oregon sales tax.
A town within a city, out on the peninsula
St. Johns has always felt a little apart, and it likes it that way. Tucked at the tip of the North Portland peninsula, reached over the soaring Gothic towers of the St. Johns Bridge, it keeps its own historic main street, its own small-town identity, and a distinct sense of being a village that happens to be inside a big city. Around it, Portsmouth and University Park fill in with the same stock: Craftsman bungalows and cottages on modest lots, most of them over a full basement, a lot of them with a detached garage. And anchoring the north end is the University of Portland, which shapes the rhythm of the year.
Because the peninsula is its own place, plenty of services treat it as an afterthought or tack on a trip charge for being "all the way out there." We don't. We keep local crews on the peninsula, so a St. Johns basement or a Portsmouth move-out is quoted at the same flat rate as anywhere in Portland — the bridge never costs you a cent. Send a photo, get a number that covers the labor, the carry, the drive, and the disposal, with no hourly meter and no sales-tax line, because Oregon doesn't have one.
What we haul on the peninsula
- Bungalow basement cleanouts — the full basement carried up the stairs and out, left swept.
- UP student move-outs — whole-apartment and dorm loads during the May–June crush: mattresses, futons, mini-fridges, desks, and furniture.
- Detached garage cleanouts — tools, tires, lawn gear, and the overflow from the house.
- Single bulky pieces — a couch, a mattress set, an old fridge, gone in one flat-priced trip.
- Downsizing & move-out clears — right-sizing a cottage or emptying a rental at lease-end.
University of Portland student move-out
When the University of Portland lets out in May and June, the north end of the peninsula turns over all at once. Dorm rooms empty, off-campus leases in Portsmouth and University Park end, and every block sprouts a pile of the things students accumulate and can't take with them: mattresses, futons, mini-fridges, desks, cheap dressers, and the couch that came with the apartment. It's more than fits in a parent's car, and it's all due out on the same tight window. That's exactly our lane. We clear whole apartments and dorm loads, flat-priced from a photo, often same-day during the crush, and the mattresses get recycled free under Oregon's stewardship program rather than landfilled. Parents booking from out of town, roommates splitting one pickup, landlords turning a unit — same flat number, no surprises.
St. Johns pricing
Single pieces are priced individually; full move-outs, basements, and garages price as truck-fill, quoted flat from photos. The carry, the drive out to the peninsula, and the disposal are all in the number.

Peninsula basement & garage cleanouts
Off the campus rhythm, the everyday peninsula job is the same one that runs through all of old Portland: the full basement. St. Johns and Portsmouth bungalows sit over real basements, and after a couple of decades those fill with holiday bins, warped furniture, paint cans, and boxes gone soft in the peninsula damp. We clear the whole thing and carry it up the stairs — you never haul it to a curb — and we take the detached garage in the same visit if it needs it: tools, tires, lawn gear, and the overflow that stopped fitting a car years ago. It all prices as truck-fill, quoted flat before we start, with the good pieces routed to donation for a receipt.
Where it goes after
The peninsula has a strong do-it-right streak, and so do we. Usable furniture and household goods go to Goodwill of the Columbia Willamette, Community Warehouse, or Habitat's ReStore, with a donation receipt when you want one. Every mattress and box spring is recycled free under Oregon's 2026 stewardship program — a real difference during student move-out — and TVs, monitors, and computers go to Oregon E-Cycles at no charge. Metal appliances are recycled once the freon's recovered. Diverting all of it keeps our disposal cost down, which is part of why a trip across the bridge still lands at a fair flat price.
What peninsula customers say
"Booked from out of state when my daughter's UP lease ended in June. The apartment in University Park was full of a couch, two mattresses, a mini-fridge, and a busted futon. They cleared it same-day, flat price from photos, and recycled the mattresses. Total lifesaver."
"Everyone acts like St. Johns is the far side of the moon and quotes a trip fee. These folks had a crew right here on the peninsula, same flat rate as anyone else, and cleared our full bungalow basement up the stairs in an afternoon."
"Cleared the detached garage in Portsmouth — old tires, a mower, and years of stuff. Quick, friendly, recycled what they could, and gone same week. No sales tax at the end, which I always forget is an Oregon perk."
