How Much Does Junk Removal
Cost in Portland?
No "call for a quote," no estimate visit. Here are the real 2026 Portland prices — flat, photo-quoted before the truck rolls, disposal included, and with no Oregon sales tax added at the end. A single item is priced per piece; a cleanout prices by how much of the truck you fill.
The short answer
Most single-item removals in Portland land between $75 and $186, and most household cleanouts between $241 and $732 depending on how much fills the truck. Every price is flat and photo-quoted before anyone drives, the disposal is already in it, and because Oregon has no sales tax there is no tax line at all. For context, third-party home-services sites such as Homeyou and Angi generally put an average U.S. junk-removal job in the $150–$375 range for a single item to a mid-size load — our flat Portland numbers sit right in that band, minus the surprise tax and add-ons.

Cleanout & truck-fill prices
Basement, garage, estate, apartment and debris jobs price by how much of the 16-yard truck you fill — not by the hour. Send one photo of the whole space and we quote the load flat.
| Volume | Flat price |
|---|---|
| 1/4 truck | $241 |
| 1/2 truck | $431 |
| 3/4 truck | $587 |
| Full truck | $732 |
$75 minimum. Disposal included. No Oregon sales tax.
The $75 minimum, and how multiple items work
There's a $75 minimum on any job — one small item still costs $75, because it's still a crew, a truck and a trip to the transfer station. But the math gets friendlier fast. Once you have a few things, the flat per-item prices above take over, and when you're clearing a whole room or garage it flips to truck-fill, which is almost always cheaper than pricing each piece. The move that saves the most: photograph everything at once. We price the entire lot together as a single flat number rather than adding item after item — a couch, a mattress and a dresser going together will usually beat their separate prices.
Why Portland prices work the way they do
Two local facts shape the number. First, disposal here is moderate but real: Metro's transfer stations — Metro Central in NW Portland and Metro South in Oregon City — charge roughly $125–$145 a ton for mixed waste, plus a $30 transaction fee at the staffed scale and an extra $25/ton penalty on uncovered loads. That's higher than a sunbelt city and it has to be priced in honestly. So, second, we divert hard to keep the flat price fair: usable furniture goes to donation (Goodwill of the Columbia Willamette, Community Warehouse, Habitat ReStore), mattresses are recycled free under Oregon's 2026 stewardship program, e-waste is free through Oregon E-Cycles, and appliance metal is recycled — so we only pay to landfill the true remainder. In eco-minded Portland, diverting is both the right call and a genuine cost lever that keeps our prices from ballooning to cover dump fees.
Flat price vs. the City of Portland bulky-waste program
Portland does have a residential bulky-waste option, run through the franchised garbage hauler assigned to your address, and on paper it's cheaper: about $18 per trip plus $6 to $51 per item (a couch is roughly $21, a refrigerator or other coolant appliance $51). The catch is the part that isn't a dollar figure. It's curbside-only — you have to get everything out to the curb yourself — and it can take up to seven days. If you live up a walk-up, have a basement full to clear, or need it gone before a closing or a move, the city program can't do it. Our flat price buys the labor and the speed the city option leaves out: we carry it out of the home, usually same day, for one number.
Flat price vs. the national franchises
The big-name franchises (1-800-GOT-JUNK and the like) typically start around a $169 minimum and quote by volume after an in-person estimate — which means you don't see the real number until a crew is standing in your driveway, and the fee cards often carry mattress, tire, TV and trip surcharges on top. Our model is the opposite: the exact flat price up front from a photo, every surcharge folded in, and no sales tax to add because Oregon has none. Same full-service carry-out, without the estimate visit or the day-of math.
What's included in every Portland price
- Full-service carry-out — up the basement stairs, down the walk-up, out the freight elevator; you don't move a thing.
- All the labor and the drive — priced flat, never by the hour.
- Disposal, donation and recycling — the transfer-station fees, the donation runs, the e-waste and mattress recycling.
- No surcharges — no stair, walk-up, high-rise, heavy-item or fuel fees.
- No sales tax — Oregon has none, so the flat price is the whole total.
What Portland customers say about the price
"Got a flat $431 for a half-truck basement cleanout in Sellwood from a couple of photos. No estimate visit, no tax, no change on the day. Exactly what a price should be."
"A franchise wanted to send someone out just to quote my fridge and old washer. JunkRabbit priced both from a photo — $164 and $133 — and took them same day. No tax on top. Done."
"I photographed the whole spare room and they quoted it as one truck-fill instead of a dozen items. Cheaper that way, and no Oregon sales tax. Smart pricing."
Portland cost questions, answered
How much does junk removal cost in Portland?
Single items: sofa $126, queen mattress $103, refrigerator $164, treadmill $115. Cleanouts price as truck-fill: 1/4 $241, 1/2 $431, 3/4 $587, full $732. $75 minimum, disposal included, no Oregon sales tax.
Is there sales tax on junk removal in Oregon?
No — Oregon has no sales tax, so there's no tax line at all. The flat photo price is the whole total.
What's the minimum charge?
$75. A single small item bills at the minimum; a few items or a full room shift to flat per-item or truck-fill pricing.
Why isn't it more expensive given Metro's dump fees?
Metro tips at roughly $125–$145 a ton plus a $30 fee, but we divert hard — free mattress and e-waste recycling, donation, appliance metal — so we only landfill the remainder, which keeps the flat price fair.
How does it compare to the city bulky-waste program?
The city option is cheaper per item (~$18 trip + $6–$51/item) but curbside-only and up to a 7-day wait. Our flat price is full-service and usually same-day — we carry it out of the home.
