How this list works

Two ways to price a Portland job, and you take the lower.

Per item. Every piece has its own flat rate. The rate includes two people, the carry from wherever it sits, the loading, and the disposal. Best for up to about four or five defined pieces.

Per truck fraction. For rooms, basements, garages and whole houses. Best once the job stops being a list and starts being a volume.

The visit minimum is $75. Oregon has no sales tax, so nothing is added at the end. There is no stair charge, no walk-up fee, no long-carry fee, and no same-day surcharge.

Portland rules of thumb: a detached single-car garage off the back of a deep eastside lot is usually a quarter to a half. A full unfinished basement under a pre-war house is usually a half to three-quarters. A whole-house estate clearance in Irvington or Laurelhurst is one to two full loads.

What is not on this list

Household hazardous waste does not go on the truck at any price: paint, solvents, pesticides, motor oil, propane cylinders, car batteries and loose lithium-ion batteries. Portland garages and garden sheds are full of half-used deck stain, so plan for it. Check the current intake rules at the Metro facilities.

Asbestos and lead paint debris in older east-side houses need testing and licensed abatement, not a junk crew. Biohazard and medical waste need a remediation firm.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum charge in Portland?

$75 per visit. Items priced below that — a $30 countertop microwave, a $33 small area rug — still fall under the $75 floor if they are the only thing going.

Is sales tax added to these prices?

No. Oregon has no sales tax, so the quoted total is the total.

Do stairs cost extra?

No. There is no stair charge, no walk-up fee and no long-carry fee. A sofa up from a 1915 basement in Sellwood is $126, the same as one on the ground floor.

Should I price by item or by truck load?

Both, then take the lower. Up to four or five defined pieces, item pricing usually wins. A whole basement or garage is usually cheaper on the ladder — a quarter load is $241, a half is $431.

Is disposal included?

Yes. The transfer station cost is inside the flat price, so nothing is added after the load is weighed.
